Energy consumption dominates.

I keep waiting for someone to point out that the AI trade has stopped being about AI. It's about electricity now, and has been for a few quarters, and I don't think the market has fully caught up.

The argument is pretty simple. Everyone can buy compute. It is, in some sense, the easy part. NVIDIA is by all reports a functioning company that ships things. What you cannot buy on any normal timescale is the power to run that compute. Substations take years. Transmission takes even longer. Permitting takes as long as the worst regulator in your jurisdiction wants it to take.

The chips are now sitting in a warehouse, as reported by SemiAnalysis, and the grid is now the constraint. This is where I think Q3 gets interesting. The trade is power, and I think it’s the cleanest expression of the AI thesis available right now.

FAQ

Residents of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia who are 18 or older (and the age of majority in their state), physically present in one of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia when entering, with a Tilt account in good standing, and who are U.S. persons for federal tax purposes (able to provide an IRS Form W-9). Employees of the Sponsor, Tilt, their affiliates, and service providers involved in the Challenge — and their immediate families — aren’t eligible for awards, but may publish example entries, which are labeled.
